Narcissistic abuse has affected over 158 million people in the US alone, yet very little research has been done on the topic

a few things we do know...

Narcissistic abuse is the hypernym for the psychological, financial, sexual, and physical abuse of others by someone with narcissistic traits or suffering from Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).

Narcissistic Personality Disorder is gender-biased and more prevalent in men.

Narcissistic abuse affects over 158 million people in the US alone.

It negatively affects more people than depression (~80.8 million people).

There are no relationship boundaries to narcissistic abuse. It could be family, a partner, friends or work colleagues that are being narcissistically abusive.

When narcissistic abuse is experienced at home it is domestic violence.

It’s inter-generational. This means that the impact of narcissistic abuse passes through generations from parent to child.

COVID-19 lockdowns and working-from-home has hindered traditional access to therapists and support networks for many people around the world.

People struggling with their mental health and victims of abuse are especially at risk right now. Mounting data shows that domestic violence has been on the rise, as victims no longer have access to the outside world. It's also harder to access emergency resources in privacy.

“domestic abuse is acting like an opportunistic infection, flourishing in the conditions created by the pandemic." - New York Times
The United Nations called for urgent action to combat the worldwide surge in domestic violence. Secretary General António Guterres wrote on Twitter “I urge all governments to put women’s safety first as they respond to the pandemic”.
